The Local Wildlife at Andrew + Japan = Awesome

The Local Wildlife

As I have previously mentioned there is a rice field behind our apartment building. When we first got here it had nice neat rows in it, where (presumably) crops had been planted. A few days ago we noticed that someone was actually working in the field and had flooded it. Then he started driving a tractor around in it. Nobody was quite sure why.

Man on Tractor

The rice field is home to many frogs, at night they can become quite loud. You never see them in the actual field, they stay under the surface and make bubbles, but occasionally one will venture a little further afield (and presumably get lost), such as this little guy who ended up just a little further along from Neil’s apartment.

These frogs dont look very tasty to me, but to a bird they must look like delicious snacks. One night when we came home I noticed that there was just such a bird in the middle of the rice field chowing down on frogs. I tried to get some photos, but it was very dark, and I had to edit the photos somewhat so they are quite poor quality. This bird has been back once more since these photos were taken, I’m hoping he will be a regular visitor.

We called him Dr Heron.

He looked to be enjoying himself on his tractor. I didnt want to get in the way of the epic fun he was having.

I knew you would miss the ducks back here. Looks like you have found a new wee pet.

    Hi Andrew,
Just letting you know I am reading your mail often and enjoying, we are at work yet again and with the new blitz that went out after a week, and the new way of doing things, which has turned out to be a joke.9 piles of work awaiting us now, doing OVERTIME as much as we can.About ten of us here today but half go home at lunchtime which cannot blame them, far too beautiful a day out there to be here.
I have not mastered these invoices and to see the invoice through now is just too much, the stress can be seen everywhere.
Jake has not been here all week, have tried to txt him and no reply, we noticed him not happy in last couple of weeks.
And fact he gave all us woman a necklace makes me think he knew he was not coming back?
Sharon knows her grandchild is going to be a granddaughter so she is most happy.
I brought new car yesterday, Toyota Altezza, Silver in colour, year 2000 with 20, 000 kms which is good for me with my travelling from Levin.
I had best get back to work, off to John Rowles Concert at the Duxton Hotel this evening, can’t wait.
    Take Care.
    Gabriel’e
