Crazy Japanese Food: Kiwifruit Kit Kat

There are two things Japan seems to be obsessed with. Kit Kat, and Fanta. Every time I go to a convenience store I see a new flavor of one or the other. One flavor that really intrigued me was the Kiwifruit Kit Kat.

Japanese Ingenuity

I’ve seen a lot of craft knifes in my time, at our house in New Zealand there’s a good few, I’ve always had one in my flats, or two. I didn’t have one in Japan. And I needed one. So I bought one from the convenience store.

Tired

I’m now much more settled into my new job. It’s a little harder than Nova was, but easier at the same time. It’s harder in the exhausting sense. Today I’m teaching back to back kindergarten classes, without even a breather in between, I usher out one set of kids and the next set is at the door. Then I’ve got a short drive before I take about kindergarten class. It’s schedules like that which can make it hard some days.

It’s difficult because in the classes we yell lots of the vocab and phonics. I find my throat gets pretty sore, but it’s getting easier. It’s just practice. That’s not to say the job is bad, it’s far from it. In fact as I said, it’s easier than Nova in the sense that I don’t really have to control the kids. In every kids class there’s a Japanese pair teacher who pretty much keeps the kids under control.

Unlike Nova where the kids routinely spend the lesson running around the room while you were trying to teach them the vocab, here the kids sit at desks with their hands on the knees repeating all the things you want them to. So in that regard it’s a lot easier than Nova. The language is also a little easier. No more "What time will Greg feed the animals?" "He’ll feed the animals at twelve twenty five".

Now that I’m more settled into this schedule I should be able to get some photos taken this weekend. Maybe even a (short) video of my apartment.

Crazy Japanese Signs: The Homemade Edition

After I finished up at Nova, I went back to Flower Town a few times to do some shopping. One time when I was there, I noticed a display of posters painted or drawn by children. They all seemed to be promoting road safety, and were presumably part of a competition. Some were boring, but some were downright inspired. One of my favorites was this one:

Even Japanese Computers Break

Before I left Sanda, Mayumi and I went through to Kobe to visit Luke at his new job for dinner. After meeting him for dinner, we wandered around Sannomiya for a while before catching the bus home. In one of the big malls in Sannomiya I noticed that one of the posters appeared to have a windows error message on it.

Osaka Castle

I thought I had posted this, but apparently I hadn’t. Before I left Sanda, one thing I did was visit Osaka Castle. It was a beautiful day when I visited, and I must have had ten bottles of Aquarius. One thing that disgusted me was that I bought an Aquarius outside the castle for 150 yen, but as soon as I got inside the castle, the same bottle cost me 160 yen.

Japanese Haircuts: Toyohashi Style

Since I hadn’t been working for the two weeks before I moved to Toyohashi, I hadn’t been styling my hair. When I got here and had to put product in it to go to work I realised that my hair was far too long, so a haircut was in order.

New City, New Apartment, New Job

It’s been a while since my last post, but there’s good reasons for that. Namely the fact that I’m now living in Toyohashi instead of Sanda. I havn’t been taking any pictures so unfortunately this post is going to be a big long block of text. Apologies in advance.
